I guess that your commitinfo has a reference to,

  /cvs-uk/CVSROOT/record_lastdir.rb

but it sounds like it actually needs a reference to,

  /home/cvsd/cvs-uk/CVSROOT/record_lastdir.rb


I hope you have access to that filesystem, as I imagine this will cause
all CVS commits to fail?  Check for the cause of the syntax error too,
if different from that above.
